Stonehelm (officially the Dominion of Stonehelm) as a nation-state was born from the Millorn Charter; a government-endorsed mining expedition into the sprawling mountain ranges that bordered the newly formed duchies of Latakia and Wyndhamvale. The Millorn Trading Company was formed by Mozonir Millorn and six other associates who would become the patriarchs of the seven great houses of Stonehelm. The legacy of those founding seven can be seen in the current era in Stonehelm’s Council of Thains, led by their descendants.
While technically Stonehelm is considered to be a dominion of the Kingdom of Absolamia, the Dominion of Stonehelm Act assented by the seven duchies of Absolamia following the end of the war with Asmodea affords the nation-state control of its own policies and governance, along with the right to maintain its own militia to protect its interests (and by extension, those of Absolamia).
